The American artist Robert Therrien reveals to us a very nostalgic aspect of the time when, as children, we ventured under tables to discover an inordinately large universe.

Known for his large-scale sculptures, Robert Therrien reinvents everyday objects. A set of tables and chairs or stacks of plates become monumental immersive sculptures under his hands. His works created the event in the greatest museums of modern art in the world.

Robert Therrien was born in 1947 in Chicago and died on June 17, 2019. He leaves behind a body of work where the simplification of daily life, mixed with personal memories, gives it a very high evocative and narrative quality.

Contrary to the gigantism of Robert Therrien, Narcissa Niblack Thorne develops her universe, but on a much smaller scale.

Indeed, this American artist designed complete interiors on a 1/12th scale during the first half of the 20th century. This is how she produced more than a hundred miniatures representing scenes inspired by styles ranging from the 13th century to the 1930s.

Her inspiration has no borders. She has also staged American, European and Asian-style decors. Presented in boxes, these creations are made in the form of 3-dimensional pictures.

Most of her work is now exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago.
